Team 141, WOBOT, has a mission to build a winning state-of-the-art robot founded on a team philosophy of shared responsibility. The primary focus of this team is to engage high school students in the engineering process; this is accomplished through active, ongoing mentoring relationships with professionals from local visionary businesses committed to helping young people push past their perceived potential and dream big!
Our year-round program allows us to operate within the FIRST framework to include FIRST Lego League, FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge, and a complete range of off-season activities that further our students’ interests and involvement in our school and community. School activities include mentoring younger students, working at Lego regional events, mentoring Lego teams in our school and beyond, completing training programs at our elementary, middle and high schools, and preparing for our competition season through technical training and team practices. Community events include involvement in our town’s internationally-recognized Tulip Time, working with local parks and agencies, fund-raising and donating time to charity events with both local and world-wide impacts.
On an interpersonal level, our team strives to improve the lives of students through an effective mentoring program. Each student works closely with professionals in the fields of engineering, science, business and education to learn new skills and hone their interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Our goal is for each student to leave our team with a strong networking base and leadership skills that will follow them through their college experience and welcome them back to mentoring as they engage in their career path. Our program provides direction and empowers youth.
